J.F. Ahern Co. , Fond du Lac, received a William H. Feather Safety Award, a nationally recognized safety merit presented by the National Utility Contractors Association. This award is given to NUCA members with the best safety records in five categories of total man hours worked. Ahern was chosen from more than 2,500 NUCA members, based on its 2008 injury frequency data and comprehensive safety program. Safety Director Mike Schultz was presented with the award at NUCA’s 2009 Washington Summit, held in Alexandria, Va.

Mid-Day Business and Professional Women has been named the 2008–09 Local Organization of the Year by the Wisconsin Federation of Business and Professional Women. Mid-Day BPW meets at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton the third Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m.

Daniel T. Flaherty , a shareholder and team leader of the Litigation Practice Group in the firm’s Appleton and Green Bay offices, was recognized individually for his practice on complex business litigation. His civil and criminal litigation experience includes antitrust, complex corporate disputes, financial institutions, health care, intellectual property, internal corporate (including Sarbanes-Oxley) investigations, securities and tax litigation.

Hoffman LLC , Appleton, renovated Immaculata Monastery & Spirituality Center, the home of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Norfolk, Neb. Hoffman was responsible for the project’s design and construction management, which saw approximately 80 percent of the monastery gutted for remodeling of the 119,100-square-foot monastery and spirituality center.
