Preface

This book was written in an effort to spark creativity.  A large portion of the research I did for this novel took place while I was studying at the International Space University in Strasbourg France and when I did my internship at the NASA Ames Research Center in California in 2008.  I would like to stop and thank all of the brilliant professors and enthusiastic astronauts that have taught me about this industry.  Particularly, Dennis Wingo and Nikolai Tolyarenko, whose knowledge and inspiration have played a major role in the creation of this book.

Many technical reviews have discussed how to go to the Moon, but none have actually analyzed how to jumpstart a large space enterprise.  Most reports on lunar bases have taken a very conservative stance on how we will slowly explore Earth’s closest celestial neighbors.  I personally believe quite differently because as a child of the Internet Age, I have realized that technology has been accelerating the standard of living and that it only takes one decade for the world to completely change.  I believe that when production on the Moon begins to happen, it will be done very quickly and by private industry.  I have the presumption that colonizing space rapidly is an inevitable future of mankind.  Ideally it will happen just as peacefully as the future I have portrayed over the next 128 micro-chapters.

One thing I noticed about the abundance of published space material throughout the years is the lack of literature about how to monopolize a market that doesn’t exist yet.  I encourage, before you read this book, to try and acknowledge that there has never been a more conducive point in human history for someone to commercialize space.  This second rendition of my series, much like Pushing the Envelope , is just plain science...
